COVID-19 Response Fund Update

This blog post is part of a series tracking the Refugee Education Center’s response and efforts to support the refugee community in West Michigan amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Refugee Education Center is deeply grateful for the swift response from individual supporters and community organizations as we’ve navigated COVID-19. Thanks to over $80,000 worth of donations, we’ve been able to adapt to changes and keep our staff, students, and clients safe. Read below the ways our community has collectively invested in refugee support during COVID-19.

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Emergency-Needs Supplies

Six organizations and many community individuals have donated essential PPE supplies for not only our program staff but also for students and community members alike. Gear and equipment are been valued at nearly $15,000! A BIG thank you to all who contributed:

In addition, our community supporters have answered the call and donated hand-sewn face masks/coverings, diapers, wipes, baby formula, and more!

Emergency Response Funds

Since March, our Response Fund has received over $65,000 to directly support the transition to virtual learning, increased demand for Refugee Navigation Services (outreach, translation, and referral services), and the purchase of needed technology, supplies, and student enrichment materials that have been donated directly to community families.

A BIG thank you to all who have contributed:
